Colliding dissipative pulses—the shooting manifold

چکیده

We study multi-pulse solutions in excitable media. Under the assumption that a single pulse is asymptotically stable, we show that there is a well-defined ”shooting manifold”, consisting of two pulses traveling towards each other. In the phase space, the two-dimensional manifold is a graph over the manifold of linear superpositions of two pulses located at x1 and x2, with x1 − x2 1. It is locally invariant under the dynamics of the reaction-diffusion system and uniformly asymptotically attracting with asymptotic phase. The main difficulty in the proof is the fact that the linearization at the leading order approximation is strongly non-autonomous since pulses approach each other with speed of order one.

Dynamic transitions through scattors in dissipative systems.

Scattering of particle-like patterns in dissipative systems is studied, especially we focus on the issue how the input-output relation is controlled at a head-on collision where traveling pulses or spots interact strongly. It remains an open problem due to the large deformation of patterns at a colliding point. We found that a special type of unstable steady or time-periodic solutions called sc...

Slip Effects on Ohmic Dissipative Non-Newtonian Fluid Flow in the Presence of Aligned Magnetic Field

The present paper deals with the effects of Ohmic dissipative Casson fluid flow over a stretching sheet in the presence of aligned magnetic field. The present phenomenon also includes the interaction of thermal radiation and velocity slip. The governing boundary layer equations are transformed into a set of ordinary differential equations using the similarity transformations. The dimensionless ...

Separating Dissipative Pulses: The Exit Manifold

We prove that if a reaction-diffusion equation (in one space dimension) has asymptotically stable, exponentially localized traveling wave solutions then there are solutions of the system which are nearly the linear superposition of two such pulses moving in opposite directions away from one another. Moreover, such solutions are themselves asymptotically stable. This result is meant to complemen...

Oscillatory Waves in an Inhomogeneous Excitable Medium

An excitable medium is a nonlinear dissipative dynamical system able to sustain undamped wave propagation. Examples of excitable media include cardiac tissue and neural media. This thesis investigates a class of novel dynamical phenomena in excitable media, known collectively as oscillatory waves. The examples of oscillatory waves considered here are Tango waves, breathers and pulse generators....
